In Paris Stellantis showed six concepts. The one that matters already has a price and a plant.

At the Paris show Stellantis brings the 2CV, Fiat Grizzly and Multiplay, Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso. Only one has a price, a date and a plant: Pomigliano.

The Mondial de l'Auto opened on Monday 12 October at Porte de Versailles. The story you will read most is about the Chinese brands, which number about twenty against nine two years ago. It is true, and we come back to it at the end. But the manufacturer that said most in Paris about its own future, and about the future of Italian plants, is Stellantis.

The evening before the opening, Saturday 11 October, the group presented six concepts in a former airship hangar at Meudon, just outside Paris: Citroën 2CV, Fiat Multiplay, Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso, DS Fever, Peugeot RCZ Vision and Opel STX. At the show it has sixty cars from eight brands.

Six concepts is a lot, and a concept on its own says nothing: it says what a brand would like to be. To see what actually changes you have to ask each one three things: what will it cost, when will it arrive, where will it be built. Only one of Stellantis's cars in Paris answers all three.

The 2CV is the only concept with a price, a date and a plant

The electric Citroën 2CV is the first car of the programme Stellantis calls E-Car, and the three Es in the name are a list of commitments: economic, with a target price around 15,000 euros; electric; European, in design, development and production. Citroën aims to have it on the road by 2028.

The plant is Italian. In Paris Emanuele Cappellano, who runs Stellantis for enlarged Europe, confirmed that the 2CV will be built at Pomigliano d'Arco, and chief executive Antonio Filosa confirmed production in Italy. The Journal de l'Automobile adds a caveat worth keeping: Pomigliano may not be the only plant involved. Two more models on the same base, not yet shown, will join the 2CV.

Two details say more than the concept itself. The first is the platform, derived from the Leapmotor T03, the small electric car from the Chinese manufacturer whose European distribution company is 51% controlled by Stellantis. The second is the business case: Filosa said the car stands up without incentives or rule changes, and that any regulatory advantage for small electric cars would help but is not needed.

To see what that number is worth, look at the rest of the show. Today the cheapest small European electric car is the Dacia Spring, from 17,900 euros. The Renault Twingo costs 1,590 euros more. The Smart #2 starts at 19,990 euros. Fifteen thousand euros is a step below all of them, if it really arrives, and if it arrives in 2028 rather than later.

Fiat brings the cars that sell now, and they are built in Morocco

Fiat has the most concrete part of the Stellantis stand: the Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback, two SUVs under four and a half metres on the same platform as the Grande Panda, with petrol, hybrid and electric powertrains. The price is not yet published. The stated target is around 20,000 euros. They are expected in Italy in early 2027.

They are built at Kenitra, in Morocco, where production started in mid-July 2026. It is the model closest to dealers on the whole Stellantis stand, and it does not go through an Italian plant.

Next to the Grizzly there are two ideas. The Multiplay is a concept that reworks the Multipla by mixing MPV, SUV and pick-up; the French press describes it as a laboratory of ideas, not a future production model. The Multiplina, shown in Rome this summer and on display in Paris too, is a four-seat electric quadricycle built on the Topolino's base: a step above the Topolino, a step below a real car.

Fiat is the brand that can afford to experiment, because it is the one that is growing. In the European Union it rose 36% in the first quarter of 2026, 26% in the second and 25% in July and August, on the ACEA data we read brand by brand.

Alfa Romeo shows its most beautiful car, and its oldest range

The Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso is the concept that drew the most cameras. It is a 2+2 coupé, 4.70 metres long and just over 1.33 metres tall, with a cut-off tail recalling the SZ of the 1960s and a dashboard inspired by the 33 Stradale.

It does not preview a Giulia. The brand's chief executive, Santo Ficili, told Quattroruote that the Cuorerosso's styling will go on the C-segment SUV due in early 2028, which will replace the Tonale, and then on a future Giulietta that will not be an SUV and does not yet have a date. Meanwhile the Giulia and Stelvio stay as they are: "we have therefore decided to continue with the current Giulia and Stelvio until the end of 2027", Ficili said. They are built at Cassino, a plant that runs at a fraction of its capacity.

The contrast is in the numbers. In the European Union Alfa Romeo lost 17% in the first quarter of 2026, 29% in the second and 30% in July and August. The group's most beautiful concept belongs to the brand that is selling least, and the first car to inherit its styling is more than a year away.

What ties the six cars together is the distance between concept and price list

Lined up, Stellantis's concepts describe a group that has decided to set its brands apart again: a shared platform to save money, a different character for each. That is the approach of the industrial plan of the Filosa era, FaSTLAne 2030.

But for the people who sell and repair these cars, the calendar matters more than the character. The Grizzly arrives in early 2027. The Alfa Romeo SUV in early 2028. The 2CV by 2028. Until then dealers sell today's ranges, and today's range is the one that produced the Fiat and Alfa Romeo curves we have just seen.

There is a geography too. Of the products shown in Paris, the one closest to market is built in Morocco, and the one furthest away, the 2CV, at Pomigliano. For industrial Italy the show's good news exists, but it has a date: 2028.

And the Chinese brands? They have doubled, and one is already inside Stellantis

The rest of the show confirms what was known. The exhibitor list includes 19 Chinese carmaker brands, against nine in 2024: among them BYD, with the largest stand, a thousand square metres with no world premiere according to press previews, Chery with Omoda and Jaecoo, Geely, XPeng, Zeekr, and Li Auto on its European debut. BMW and Mini withdrew over the summer, citing changed priorities.

But in Paris the line between European and Chinese runs through Stellantis. Leapmotor has its stand in the same hall as Peugeot, Fiat and Alfa Romeo, and its B03 is expected below 20,000 euros. The 2CV, the most French car at the show, is born on a Leapmotor platform and will be built in Italy. Asking whether a car is European or Chinese tells you less and less about who will compete with you from the showroom next door.

What to do with it

If you hold a Stellantis franchise, the Paris concepts do not change your 2027. The dates do: the Grizzly early in the year if you sell Fiat; if you sell Alfa Romeo, a full year with an end-of-life range before the new SUV. A Fiat franchise and an Alfa Romeo franchise answer to the same group and are living opposite years.

If you are thinking of selling or buying a dealership, that calendar belongs in the plan. A group with many Alfa Romeo points reaches 2028 with a transition year to get through; one with many Fiat points arrives with a new product in hand. A network's value moves with the franchises it holds, and with the moment those franchises get a new car.

If you are a supplier around Naples, the 2CV is the most concrete news the show gave Italy. But it is a 15,000-euro car, built on a platform derived from a Chinese car, with a business case the manufacturer says works without subsidies. Whoever supplies it will have to fit inside that price.
